First released in 2009 the Skoda Yeti became a great all-rounder and a staple of the Skoda SUV offering. It has a boxy, practical design that allows it to be a fantastic family car or adventurous off-road car depending on which model you choose.
Skoda gave the Yeti an upgrade to its appearance in 2014 sharpening the appearance with stronger straight lines and a modern appeal. Unfortunately, Skoda ultimately discontinued the Yeti and released the Skoda Karoq in its place.
Inside the Yeti benefits from ample space inside. Everything in the cabin has been built to last. While it won’t win any awards for style, the dashboard has been laid out with a focus on practicality. It does still have subtle touches of luxury with the leather steering wheel and practical armrest.
The light and spacious interior is incredibly complemented by the panoramic roof. This helps the interior feel open and comfortable throughout.
The Yeti offers a very comfortable drive quality. It has an excellent view to all of your surroundings giving you an unparalleled view of your environment. Despite its large appearance, it does have reliable handing and is incredibly fun to drive.
Whilst, yes, the Yeti is only available as a used Skoda now, it will bring a lot of practicality and reliability. Especially as there are models to suit all needs.
It's also a very safe car scoring the full five stars on the Euro NCAP crash test.
As with all Skoda’s the Yeti comes in a selection of engines, trims, and transmissions. There are also variations that come with front-wheel drive or as a 4x4.
There are three petrol engines to choose from. This includes 1.2, 1.4, and 1.8-litre options. While the diesel comes with 1.6 or 2.0-litre engines. You also have the option of manual or automatic gearboxes.
If you are focused on fuel efficiency you’ll want to opt for one of the smaller engines as they offer a better MPG.
Now onto the trims. Skoda offers four to choose from that include SE, SE Drive, SE L, and SE L Drive. Each trim scales in features, luxury and function. Don’t mistake the trim as being a poor level though as even the base level model comes fairly kitted out.
The easiest way to explain how the trim levels work is that. The SE L models have xenon headlights, heated front seats and the drive models feature sat nav, DAB radio and special alloy wheels among a host of other features. .
Whilst the Yeti is very popular with those looking for a reliable crossover, there are a few things to look out for.
Firstly, as the Yeti is commonly seen as a family car, you’ll want to keep an eye on interior damage caused by years of carrying kids.
Likewise you will also want to check the underside for any damage if you are looking at an off road model. As these models are more likely to experience a little more wear and tear than your average Yeti.
As with any used car you will want to visually inspect the vehicle for damage, check the service history and ensure it is all in good condition. Tick all of these boxes so you are sure to have a dependable vehicle for many years.
